I use to live in Calcutta India. I was a travel agent. We booked a lot of hotel rooms for tourists, book a lot of airline & train tickets, but my favorite job was changing people’s destination!
Anyway…
One thing I didn’t like about Calcutta was the filth & poverty. I wanted to feed everybody which wasn’t within my means at that time. I still couldn’t feed everyone… but I would like to try.
One thing I really liked about Calcutta was it was like living in a giant village. By “giant” I mean approx 18 MILLION people. It’s much more now I’m sure. I some times miss hearing the Muslim call to pray at 4 a.m. When we first moved into the neighborhood it woke me up everyday. It sounded so sad – it had a minor tone to it for sure. I asked the Lord to break their speaker; He told me to hear it as their cry for help. I still hear it as that today.
I kept the “chai wala” in business for months downstairs until my wife & I learned to make it ourselves. Then I helped the “dab wala” (coconut salesman) pay his bills after that. We did eventually get a coconut tree of our own when we moved down south years later. I liked living there too.
Cool stuff is happening in India these days: the middle class is exploding like it did here in America back in the 1950′s. Women are entering the work force too. (Not always a positive, long-term result because of it’s impact on the family & “gender reversal”.) In a hundred years or so I wonder if immigration will be their major problem – it may be Americans trying to move in & get a job at the local call center! In 100 years they may be considering socialized medicine. Then we will know their empire is beginning to crumble & another nation’s middle class will begin to emerge.
But who’s?

p.s. – remember to pray for our President & our country: God isn’t done with her yet!

I’m hangin’ with my friends Pastor Peggy & Scott Heald here in West Palm Beach today! Had a fantastic couple of services yesterday & spoke to their outstanding volunteers & leaders last night. They are working me HARD! No, really!
But today – nice & easy!
Maybe I’ll get to see my friend Norm DuBoise while I’m down this far south!
Make it a great day!

It’s a soccer morning! G2 in the goal again. He’s only allowed one goal this season & his little team is undefeated. Ok, they are 8 yrs old but I’m a proud Papa! And as the teams “Assistant Coach” let me just say – they are on FIRE!
I have the honor of ministering in a partner church tomorrow that supports our work in India. Should be fun! (Especially since its in West Palm Beach, FL!) I know – suffering for Jesus right? Well, somebody’s got to do it!
See ya next week,

But when [Jesus] saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.
Matthew 9:36
Here are a few thought provoking ideas from my pastoral team in India:
Without a shepherd sheep get into all kinds of trouble. They are easily lost, and can fall into pits without someone to watch over them. Sheep are vulnerable to predators without the protection of a shepherd. They are given to self- destructive behaviours (like eating until their stomach ruptures) without the watchful eye of a shepherd.
A Christian without a pastor is just like a sheep without a shepherd. Without a pastor, it is easy to wander away from the Lord and fall into sin. If there is no pastor for guidance, we are easy targets for the attacks of the devil. Without a pastor it is too easy to fall into self- destructive behaviours such as addictions and immorality.
Because God cares for you, He has put people in your life to guide you. Your cell leader and your pastor will help you to stay strong in the Lord. They love you and want God’s best for you. When you are facing temptations or difficulties in your life, go to your shepherd and let them help!

Acts 1:8 / Matt. 28:28 “ALL authority…” What faith God has in you & me to turn right around & give us back the authority Adam lost!
Paul says, “When Jesus was finishing his dealings with Satan, His victory over the devil was no quiet affair.” There was a rumbling in the spirit world! An alarm went off! It was a loud moment that frightened the lord of fear, So why be quiet now? Joel 2:1
I watched Tido Trinadad (Oct. ’04 – welterweight match.) TKO the #1 contender. They put that belt around his waist and he raised his hands in championship form! He was the VICTOR & everybody knew it! Especially the the guy he knocked out!
Jesus is the Champion of the World! And He has caused us to trump & share in His victory! We are victors not victims!

Memories & Destinies
That’s what life is made of
Inspirations & situations
send you searching for love
Strangers become the friends
of lost & lonely wanders
Broken boys become the sons
of lost & wandering fathers
Life’s a Road
Lighted by the stars
See the Rose
Humbled by her scars
Feel the wind
Blowing through your hair
There’s a Friend
Who will always be there
Visions of Hope & Dreams of Fire
Treasure somewhere out there
Really what we’re searching for
Is a moment to share
And in the moment passion can’t pay
The Jailer’s cruel ransom
Then our eyes begin to see
What is truly handsome…
Life’s a Road.

I dreamt that when my friend Jeff Taylor gave an “altar call” for blind people or folks with vision impairment issues in our church this morning that 2 came forward and were blessed & their vision improved.
But when he gave the call for deaf people & those that were hearing impaired that over a dozen people came down, some pulling their hearing-aids off as they were coming & shouting, “I can hear!” It was like the word got out in our city, “If you have hearing problems be at Harvest Church today.” And they were; so was The Healer – Jesus!
Services are at 9 & 11 a.m.

I will miss the late Summer nights & sleeping in. The sound of crickets & movies with friends. Swimming in the neighbor’s pool; reading by sunlight in the atrium… Drives to Jackson to Papaw; late-night with Nanna; slip-n-slides; picking pears & eating figs right off the tree. But today we het school supplies in place & consider one last jaunt to the beach. Any takers?
